
Giovanni Scarafile is Associate Professor of Moral Philosophy at the University of Pisa and holds the Liu Boming Professorship at Nanjing University (NJU).
He serves as series editor for Controversies: Ethics and Interdisciplinarity (John Benjamins Publishing Company, Amsterdam) and of Etiche applicate e antropologie filosofiche (Milella, Italy) He is a member of the editorial boards of several international journals.
He is also Vice President of the International Association for the Study of Controversies. His most recent monograph, La spina nella carne. Cinque lezioni sul dialogo (YOD Institute, 2025), examines the ethical and existential dimensions of dialogue. He also edited and introduced the Italian edition of Abraham Kaplan’s The Duologue: The Life of Dialogue (Morcelliana, 2022), a work that was cited by Pope Francis in his message for the 56th World Communications Day.
He is a regular contributor to Avvenire and has lectured at universities in Tel Aviv, Paris, Lisbon, Taipei, Budapest, Zaragoza, Nanjing, Tokyo, Athens, Hanover, Jerusalem and Beijing.
